Reclast is a 15 minute intravenous infusion given to prevent or treat women with postmenopausal osteoporosis. One annual dose, along with daily calcium and vitamin D, prevents bone resorption and reduce the chances of having a hip or spinal fracture.
Reclast is also used to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis as well as treat men and women with Paget’s disease. Reclast targets diseases that have spread to the bone as well as provides treatment for high blood calcium levels.
Patients should not take Reclast if they are already receiving Zometa since both medicines contain zoledronic acid.
