Actemra
Actemra infusion therapy is used primarily for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. It is a prescription medicine called an Interleukin-6 receptor antagonist that helps control symptoms and reduces inflammation. Actemra becomes an option after a Disease-Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drug (DMARD) was prescribed and did not produce desired results. Dosage will vary based on the patient’s weight and what their physician prescribes but the recommended starting dose is 4mg/kg. Treatment will last about an hour and be administered about every four weeks.
Actemra is also used for the treatment of active polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (PJIA) and systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (SJIA).
Unless otherwise directed by a physician, Actemra is not to be administered to anyone with any kind of infection.
